There are two types of bone, the one being a solid cortical tissue, while the other is an interconnecting honeycomb structure, called trabecular tissue. In the early stages of osteoporosis, this honeycomb structure of trabecular bone may already be damaged, however bone density tests would not show anything abnormal because the bone mass is still the same.
